Alright... I enjoyed Your article allot... I dig Your style of writing. Just so You don't take /\/\e too seriously, although you should, /\/\y "/\/\" key is broken and I can't copy and paste the/\/\ in your little window here... So... I've got so/\/\e beef here. I don't know if You and the rest of New Yorkers know this or not... But in the rest of the world, when we hear you guys talk about 'the city' as if it's the only one in the world, and talk about nu/\/\bered streets, assu/\/\ing we'll know it's in 'the city'... or care... You're alientating us. Nothing turns off so/\/\eone not living in New York like New Yorkers talking like they're soooo elite and sniffing their own farts. Na/\/\e a state, wisconsin, /\/\ontana, /\/\aine, louisiana, and You think, "That place sucks, I'd never want to live there." I get that. There's a lot of states I won't live in or have anything to do with. But that attitude carries over. People in other states are building an eye-bleeding disgust with new yorker's self /\/\asturabatory rhetoric. Who wants to send /\/\oney to /\/\edia /\/\asters that pretty /\/\uch blatenly look down on people fro/\/\ other places? Not that You're doing that too hard... But it's there and it's subtle and I see it everyday in al/\/\ost every /\/\agazine... and people are realizing that they don't want to send /\/\oney to elitest... who get that way fro/\/\ our hard earned /\/\oney. Just beware... I'/\/\ sure You're only vaugley aware You're just tossing around Your own culture... But when that culture stinks... We starts to associate that stink with those we s/\/\ell it around. Peace!
This post was intended to be a place for people to confess their sins, so...should we file your comment under Envy? (Kidding!!!)
But seriously, being from a farming town in the Midwest originally, we feel you on the arrogant New Yorker thing. We're just as aware of it as you are (see, e.g., The Douchiest Place on Earth post).
That said, this is explicitly a blog about New York. Not because we think New Yorkers are superior, just because (a.) we currently live there, (b.) we think it's a fucking awesome city (there's a difference between thinking a city is awesome and thinking its citizens are somehow superior to people who don't live there), and (c.) this blog is also explicitly about sin, and NYC is a particularly sinful and indulgent place.
So, for those reasons, we're not going to apologize for focusing our attention primarily on NYC, and we're not going to pause to explain every NYC-centric reference (hopefully the site can still be enjoyed even if you don't get every single joke).
But your point is well-taken, and we don't see any reason to seek only "your most salacious (and true) tales of sin in the City," when in fact a lot of sinning goes on in other parts of the world. So, next time we seek Confessions, we'll drop the "in the City" part. Fair enough?
Glad you're enjoying the site (somewhat), and thanks for your comment.
